Post-Apocalypse

I've been thinking about the post-apocalypse genre in more of an abstract sense, and referred back to a project I did on Foundation, designing basic stage sets on the theme of growth and decay:

Post-Apocalypse thoughts

My first thought for the three possible genres to put the play into was a Post-Apocalyptic theme/genre. For those not familiar with the term, it usually describes an "end of the world" scenario.
Wikipedia can probably describe it way more eloquently than I can:
"Apocalyptic fiction is a sub-genre of science fiction that is concerned with the end of civilization either through nuclear warplague, or some other general disaster. Post-apocalyptic fiction is set in a world or civilization after such a disaster. The time frame may be immediately after the catastrophe, focusing on the travails or psychology of survivors, or considerably later, often including the theme that the existence of pre-catastrophe civilization has been forgotten (or mythologized). Post-apocalyptic stories often take place in an agrarian, non-technological future world, or a world where only scattered elements of technology remain. There is a considerable degree of blurring between this form of science fiction and that which deals with false utopias or dystopic societies."
Think films such as 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, I Am Legend etc.

I chose to look at I Am Legend in particular as a source, and I find the visuals really close to how I imagined a post apocalypse Iron Hans would look. I found a good amount of concept art relating to the film, and found it to be quite different from the final look of the film.
As seen here, the original concepts were quite industrial in their depiction of destruction, buildings seen to be falling apart or in various stages of decay. I want my designs for Iron Hans to adopt a similar style

of destruction, but less 'dramatic', if you will, and with more of an organic feel. I would want to retain much of the forest theme that runs through the Grimm Tales, and specifically through Iron Hans.
Looking further through the concept art, I found an image that much more accurately represents the feel I would want my production to have, showing a city abandoned and overgrown, where there is less destruction, rather trees and foliage taking over where  civilization has disappeared.

This is how I intend to explore the idea for a post apocalyptic Iron Hans, although I haven't decided the time period I would keep it in.

Deadline Woe

Honestly, the worst time for my printer to decide it doesn't want to print true colours. I'm just going to order some prints of my photos, and hope that Colin & Andy will accept my awful inkjet printer placeholder images in the meantime. :(!
